An Invitation to Participate

You are cordially invited to join us in Lincoln, Nebraska for the 2006 joint meeting of the AAG Great Plains-Rocky Mountain Division and the West Lakes Division. Geographers at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in collaboration with colleagues in the West Lakes Division are structuring a full program of invited and contributed papers (oral and poster papers) and field trips. Contributed papers on any topic related to geography are invited. It is not necessary to be a member of AAG to participate in the conference. In addition to paper and poster sessions, we are planning a number of special events including:

  • opening reception at the University of Nebraska State Museum (http://www-museum.unl.edu/)
  • plenary speakers including Dr. James R. Shortridge, University of Kansas, and Mr. Joel Sartore, photographer for National Geographic magazine
  • selected papers published in a special issue of the journal Great Plains Research
  • field trips focused on:
    • historical and urban geography of Lincoln
    • Nebraska City, the Arbor Day center and orchards and the Lewis & Clark museum
    • physical geography of the Lincoln area including Spring Creek Prairie and unique saline wetland
    • agricultural geography of eastern Nebraska including a visit to the James Arthur vineyard
    • ethnic landscapes of small town Nebraska
  • student "breakfast with a mentor"
  • student paper competition
  • Geography Bowl
