I-A   Healthy Departments Chair: Richard Marston, Kansas State University

 

This panel of Healthy Departments brings together current and future department leaders with geographers who are administrators from across the country. The focus will be on aligning department goals with those of their institutions, finding effective ways to position geography departments within institutions, and identifying challenges and opportunities for geography in the context of the current political and budgetary climate.  Kansas State University Dean of Arts and Sciences, Steve White, and A&S Dean at Valparaiso, Jon Kilpinen, will discuss a dean's perspective of what comprises a healthy department and how to align department goals with those of the administration. University of Nebraska Geography Department Chair David Wishart will discuss special issues with merged departments.  Kavita Pandit, AAG President and A&S Associate Dean at the University of Georgia, will discuss mentoring faculty and advising international students.  KSU Geography Department Head and AAG Past President, Richard Marston, will discuss strategic planning, engaging faculty and program development.
