NebraskaMap Now Online

The goal of NebraskaMAP is to ensure that Nebraskans make full use of geospatial data and technologies such as geographic information systems (GIS) that are increasingly critical tools for mapping, monitoring and managing our cities and rural lands, and protecting our natural resources. Working in collaboration with the Nebraska GIS Council and many partners, we are establishing a geospatial data-sharing and web services network to support and enhance the ability of Nebraska agencies at all levels of government to better address their respective missions, respond to emergencies and provide for the public good.

2005 Land Use Mapping

The 2005 Land Use Mapping project at the Center for Advanced Land Management Information Technologies (CALMIT) is funded by the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources. Using multi-date Landsat 5 satellite imagery CALMIT will be mapping 2005 agricultural patterns for the entire State of Nebraska. The scale of the mapping products are at 1:100,000 with a ground resolution of 28.5 meters. There are 25 land use classes and crops are identified as either irrigated or dry land. Currently the 2005 land use mapping in The Central Platte River Basin has been completed. The overall accuracy of the classification was calculated at 80.66%. The statewide 2005 land use products should be available in late Summer of 2007.

CALMIT Hyperspectral Aerial Monitoring Program Information Available Online

Through grants awarded by the National Science Foundation and National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the Center for Advanced Land Management Information Technologies (CALMIT), in cooperation with the UNL Department of Electrical Engineering and the UNO Aviation Institute, collectively known as the Nebraska Airborne Remote Sensing Program (NARSP), has developed an aerial remote sensing research platform.

A specially modified Piper Saratoga aircraft is being used as the base platform for deployment of a number of research grade remote sensing instruments.

CALMIT's airborne remote sensing activities are centered around a suite of insturments associated with an AISA Eagle hyperspectral imaging system. This specific program is identified as CALMIT Hyperspectral Aerial Monitoring Program (CHAMP).

Land Cover of Nebraska (LUM-37): Henebry, G.M., Merchant, J.W.,(1:800,000; 2005), size 24" x 38". Description: A generalized depiction of the state's natural vegetation, its agricultural lands and urban areas. The map was developed principally from analysis of Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) imagery acquired in 1991-1993. Areas as small as 30x30 meters were mapped. This map was prepared at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Center for Advanced Land Management Information Technologies (CALMIT) by faculty, staff and students working under the direction of Dr. Geoffrey M. Henebry and Dr. James W. Merchant. Full resolution digital or hardcopy enlargements of Land Cover of Nebraska, information on the Nebraska Gap Analysis Project, details on methods used to produce Land Cover of Nebraska, and information regarding other satellite images and maps of Nebraska can be obtained from CALMIT. Satellite View of Nebraska, a companion product that depicts Nebraska as seen from Landsat is among the products available.
